Big news! Coca Cola recently announced that they will no longer sponsor the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), formerly known as the American Dietetic Association. AND claims to be devoted to “improving the nation’s health” and forces “registered dieticians to belong to and regulates what they can say or not say in their practices.
But who does sponsor the AND? The American Egg Board, The Tri-Lamb Group, The Hershey Center for Health and Nutrition, the Distilled Spirits Council and the Wrigley Science Institute to name a few. These industry groups pay the AND $20,000 to write Nutrition Fact Sheets, which AND promotes through its journal and on its website.
